Moore's Ford Memorial Committee Affordable Housing Group

MFMC was formed to recognize and honor the lynching victims who were killed in Oconee and Walton Counties in 1946. The Committee is committed to social justice through creating public discussion of history, its impact on the present, and, most recently, the issue of affordable housing in its community. GCLF organized and led an "Affordable Housing 101" workshop and introduction to strategic planning for MFMC so that they could formulate a plan for gaining community input to create much needed affordable housing in the area.

Newtown Florist Club, Inc.

Newtown is an African-American Environmental Justice organization made up of citizens whose homes were built on a landfill in the 1930's after they were displaced from prime real estate by the city of Gainesville, Georgia. In the years since, zoning laws allowed and encouraged polluting factories to surround the Newtown community. Many community members have died from cancer and/or suffer with illness as a result of the pollution. Newtown is developing a new community for themselves away from the environmental toxins. Continuing GCLF Board member Skipper StipeMaas's work, GCLF would like to help Newtown as it fights for environmental and social justice by supporting their acquisition of land and houses with their newly formed land trust.
