One million Georgians (1/8th of Georgia's population) live in manufactured housing. Despite the prevalence of manufactured housing and its critical role as a source of affordable homeownership for Low to Very-Low Income families in our state, this housing sector is plagued with problems that undermine its ability to provide the same level of financial security and wealth-building opportunities offered by traditional, site-built homeownership. GCLF, in partnership with Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) and Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP, created the Georgia Manufactured Housing Initiative to address these problems.
I'M HOME (Innovations in Manufactured Homes) is a national multi-year initiative
that seeks to ensure that families who choose to purchase manufactured
homes can reap benefits from homeownership comparable to owners of other
homes. I'M HOME supports the Georgia Community Loan Fund, which
is working with People of Hope, Inc. in Athens, Georgia to develop the first tenant controlled, permanently affordable manufactured home community in Georgia. GCLF is promoting this model of home ownership, and the improved treatment of manufactured housing, to enable more low-income Georgians to benefit from the advantages of home ownership.

Creating Affordable Homes: The Role of Manufactured Housing in Georgia, Atlanta, GA, September 14, 2005
GCLF and GLSP co-convened this symposium to review data, define the market, hear what residents of manufactured housing parks are doing to secure their assets, summarize existing models and laws, and kick off the Georgia Manufactured Housing Initiative. Banking representatives, affordable housing advocates, lawyers, community groups and county level government representatives from various locations throughout Georgia met to discuss how manufactured housing residents are changing Georgia’s communities and are helping to change the manufactured housing marketplace in the US.
